School Budget Passes at June 3 Town Meeting

Friday 20 June

After almost an hour of debate over 14 articles modifying land use and development review ordinances, voters approved the 2008-2009 school budget with little discussion, after increasing the fuel line of the proiposed budget by $20,000. The final budget provides for total school spending of $1,712,501, a 9.8% increase over the prior year. The town appropriation will be $1,618,070, 14.8% above 2007-2008.

Special Town Meeting Proves Contentious

Friday 20 June

On the warrant were land use and development review ordinance changes proposed recommended for approval by the Planning Board. The School budget was also on the agenda. (For a report on that part of the meeting see page TK).

A special town meeting on June 3 proved to be as contentious as the regular town meeting in May was calm. Close to one hundred residents, both year round and non-voting seasonal, gathered at Kinnicutt Center at 6:00 and didn’t quit until 9:15. Marc Schnur was moderator.

2006 Annual Town Meeting

Saturday 22 April

Nearly 100 voters turned out for the annual Town Meeting April 8 and elected two school board members, one selectman, and dispatched the budget and warrant articles with alacrity and little discussion.

Moderator Marc Schnur entertained nominations from the floor for the selectmen’s seat currently held by Pete Anderson, who took out nomination papers. He won 56-24 over Dick Lemke.
